One of the many Buzzards seen in the
Grandborough Valley this morning.

Marsh Harrier (female) north east over Cubbington this morning (J Judge). Egyption Goose in the field opposite the entrance to Middelton Hall this afternoon (M Doughty). In the Grandborough Valley this morning 2 Stonechat, 127 Golden Plover, and around 20 Buzzards. At Draycote 111 Wigeon, 18 Goldeneye, 20 Sand Martins, and a male Wheatear at the back of farnborough bank (R Mays, S Seal). 26 Goosanders roosted at Shustoke this evening (B Kington).

At Coton Lake this morning 3 adult Kittiwakes and the first winter Little Gull, the Kittiwkes flew off North at 8-30. (J Fincham , M Yapp). The Little Gull was still present at mid-day. On Lea Marston Lake the pair of Scaup were still present viewed from the road bridge (Birdguides). And at Whitacre the Siskin total has now reached 32 at the feeding station, also Brambling fem, Willow Tit, Lesser Redpoll 11, and 5 Curlew on the flashes (J Wesson). Little Egret at Middleton Hall and Cetti's still at Fisher's mill.(J Harris).Male Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in wood alongside entrance drive to Middelton Hall this afternoon, (G Williams).Also a Lesser Spotted Woody seen at Whitacre this afternoon also Little Egret by the railway line viewed from the road bridge.(J Wesson). 22 Goosanders roosted at Shustoke Res this evening (B Kington).

The first winter Little Gull was still present today at Coton Lake , in very strong winds the bird could be found hawking insects from along side the footpath towards the hide. At Whitacre Heath today 2 Curlew on the flashes, 2 Stonechats , and a Sand Martin along the river (J Hoyles). At Draycote this morning a Barn Owl by the sewage farm, a female Scaup in toft, Raven and 2 Curlew over and a male Stonechat on the fence below farnborough bank. (R Mays). Little Egret at Ladywalk and a male Goosander along the river and at Shustoke Res 15 Goosanders, (S Seal).

A drake Lesser Scaup was found this morning by (D Pratt), at Alvecote Pools the bird was still present at 17-00 hours and showing well; the bird is located at the north end of Mill Pool and can be easily viewed from the bridge at the end of Laundry Lane,it is loosely associating with Tufted Ducks .

3 Sand Martins at Coton Lakes and 3 at Broomy croft Kingsbury this morning, also a Dunlin on Cliff Pool,(J Oates). Also 1 Firecrest seen again near the fishermans car park along Laundry Lane Alvecote.(Birdguides).15+ Sand Martins at Coton late afternoon during hail storm!(T Perrins).At Draycote this evening, Curlew, Redshank, 8 Sand Martin and 4 Dunlin, in the roost a pale first winter Glaucous Gull, a 3w Iceland Gull and an adult Kittiwake (R Mays).

With high winds and heavy rain today its not surprising that very little was found. But one Firecrest made it through the rain to show again by the fishermans car park at the top end of Laundry Lane Alvecote early afternoon ,(Birdguides).

Lesser Redpoll.......Whitacre Heath NR.....(Midland Bird Images).

Very little news today, Still 1 Firecrest this morning at the top end of laundry lane Alvecote by the fishermans car park. And the 2 Scaup still at Lea Marston lake viewed from roadbridge, (Birdguides). At Whitacre Heath NR the Lesser Redpolls are still performing well at the feeding station also 6 Siskin and a couple of Willow Tits.(S Seal). One Sand Martin and a (juv) Glaucous Gull at Draycote this evening, (L Johnson).Five Sand Martins on cliff pool Kingsbury this afternoon (S Cawthray).

The female and 1st winter drake Scaup were still on the balancing lake at Lea Marston this morning viewed from roadbridge,(J Oates). Two Little Egrets again on the small pool next to the railway line at Lea Marston opposite Whitacre Heath NR, viewed from roadbridge. And an Osprey reported flying over Brandon Marsh late afternoon 16-30,(Birdguides).In the Grandborough Valley today 3 Barn Owl, 2 Stonechats, 3 Buzzard, 4 Raven and 8 Golden Plover. And at Draycote Water 4 Raven, 5 Goosander, 16 Goldeneye, 16 Pochard, 10 Teal and 120 Wigeon (R Mays).

The first winter drake Lesser Scaup found at Draycote Water by (R Mays) on 27th November 2007 departed just one day before its 100th day. Lassie as Richard nicknamed him gave very good views to the hundreds of birders that came to see him. Ever faithfull to the toft bay area of Draycote Water it could be found feeding with a small group of Tufted Ducks, he has been well photographed during his 99 day stay.It now looks like he paid a brief visit to Brandon Marsh yesterday where he was again photographed, but there was no sign today.

Two or possibly 3 Firecrests still at Laundry Lane Alvecote this afternoon; also 23 Shelduck and 9 Goosander on Mill Pool.(Birdguides).No sign today of yesterdays drake Lesser Scaup at Brandon Marsh. A male Goosander on Seeswood pool (D Hutton). Nearby at Marsh Lane 2 x adult Kittiwakes (N Barlow).

March 4th Draycote Water

Lesser Scaup at Draycote was in gray’s barn, toft bay before flying off where later on it was seen in rainbow corner before flying back. In the roost were Glaucous Gull 3 (first winter, pale first winter & second winter.) Iceland Gull (white first winter) Caspian Gull 3rd winter, adult and near adult Yellow-legged Gulls and adult winter Little Gull. Rock Pipit was on draycote bank.

Very little again today,with very strong westerlies.The Peregrine was seen again this morning on St Marys church Warwick, (S Valentine). A Merlin at Church End early this morning over B4114 (S Seal,D Hutton). The 2x Scaup still on Lea Marston Lake a female and 1w drake, (Birdguides).
